A domain name registrar is a company that manages the reservation of Internet domain names.
Apart from you and the web designer, there are other parties you need to deal with if you want to have a website. With whom you may encounter financial issues.
Today we will talk about one of them: the domain registrars.
Who is a domain registrar?
A domain registrar, or a domain name registrar, is a company that manages the reservation of Internet domain names.
In my words, these companies are like estate agencies. Just they don’t deal with house addresses, but with domain addresses. Different from the housing industry, here a fresh, unused domain is much cheaper than a second-hand domain.
Who is on the other side of the domain registrar?
1) Top-level domain registries. Briefly, they are the companies or organizations who own the servers and right of the “com”, “org”, “nl”, etc.
2) First-hand domain owners. This is the case when you try to buy a domain which is already owned by someone else. It can be taken by someone who uses it personally, or someone who registers domain names for investment. Usually they ask quick a lot.
How do I pay for my domain?
1) If you are buying a fresh and new domain name, then you pay an annually fee to the domain registrar. It is usually quite cheap in the first two years, and get to normal (12-20 euros) afterwards.
2) If you are buying an taken domain name, that depends on the value of this domain. For example, if it is used as a company website already, then you need to consider the value of this company when estimating the price. Apart from that, you still need to pay the annual fee to the registrar.
